SCORE Family,
My wife, Bonnie, and I were called to serve in Hildale, Utah, which is located on the southern border of Utah and Arizona. Hildale borders Colorado City, Arizona, so you could say we are serving in two states at the same time.
The beginning of our mission centered around baseball. We have conducted baseball camps every June since arriving, and I have led weekly baseball mini-clinics. During both the SCORE camp week and the weekly clinics, we have the opportunity to teach baseball skills and share our testimonies about what Jesus has done in our lives.
At the start of our time in Hildale, I was commuting back and forth from Glendale, Arizona. In the fall of 2022, Bonnie and I prayed and decided it was time for me to move to Hildale permanently. We both felt it was necessary to become fully integrated into the community in order to better understand the culture and build meaningful relationships.
This season was challenging, as Bonnie and I lived apart for a year while she had not yet moved to Hildale. However, forming friendships within the community and becoming members of Community of Grace Church helped us navigate that difficult time. We are now active members of the church, where we have helped establish a prayer team and set up a welcome center.
Baseball continues to be a key part of our ministry. I serve as the head baseball coach at Water Canyon High School, which allows me to connect with local youth outside of camps and clinics. We have started a team Bible study that has led to several players accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior and being baptized. This has also opened the door for ongoing discipleship. We have completed one discipleship journey and are currently discipling two former players.
I also teach in a self-contained classroom in Fredonia, Arizona, about 35 minutes east of Hildale. This role has allowed us to connect with another community and serve through various projects.
Since Bonnie moved to Hildale in August 2025, she has been working at the Common Grounds Thrift Store, a ministry of Community of Grace Church. She is deeply involved in the community, serving customers both from Hildale and surrounding areas. She has had opportunities to pray with customers and share her testimony when appropriate.
Most recently, we connected with the Red Circle Lodge and began leading a Bible study for the teenage youth there. We have also provided opportunities for them to attend church.
We hosted a team from Grace Christian in Sanford, North Carolina, in December 2025, as well as a group from Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, in March. Both teams were a tremendous blessing as they served throughout the Hildale community, helping at the thrift store, Voices for Dignity, Dream City Church food bank, and Fredonia Elementary School in Fredonia, Arizona.
