Steve & Marissol Theis

Brazil

Marissol and Steve have served as missionaries in Brazil and Costa Rica, 33 years in Brazil and 4 years in Costa Rica.

Steve’s parents, George and Joan Theis, moved to Brazil in 1963 as missionaries with Word of Life. In 1968, Steve’s mother led him in the sinner’s prayer, and by faith, he received God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. In 1970, during a camp meeting where his father was preaching, Steve surrendered his life to Christ, saying, “Here is my life—use it as You desire.”

Marissol was born into a partially Christian home in Recife, Brazil. Her mother (Ana) was saved, but her father (Umberto) had not yet trusted Christ as his personal Savior. At age 13, during a salvation invitation at church, she stepped forward and received God’s gift of forgiveness through Jesus.
In 1993, she enrolled in the Word of Life Bible Institute in Recife, where she met Steve. They were married in 1995.

They have three wonderful daughters:

• Jessica, married to Caden Farr, parents of Annlise
• Amanda, married to Gustavo Santos, parents of Isaac and Ian
• Melissa, who is currently single

Our Ministry with SCORE

We serve with SCORE through Day Camps for Public School students. Since 2012, more than 140,000 students have participated in our program. Public schools enjoy a full day at a beautiful location with good food and excellent activities an incredible opportunity to share Christ with young lives.

Many students hear the gospel, and by God’s grace, many have been born again. 

“Being born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God.” —1 Peter 1:23

Our desire is to see these young people grow in Christ within a local church and eventually return to volunteer at the Day Camps. Please pray as we are currently in the process of purchasing property to build our own camp.

Church Planting

We are also involved in church planting. The church we are helping establish—Lighthouse Baptist Church—recently moved into a newly renovated location, and we are seeing God do amazing things. We currently have seven people in the new members class and around 50 in attendance every Sunday, worshiping and growing in the knowledge of God.
