Craig grew up in the Northeast Georgia mountains in Hiawassee, GA and was saved by the sovereign grace of God at the age of 12. Joanna grew up in the mountains of Monterrey, Mexico, where her dad was a pastor and became a believer when she was a young girl. After spending almost all of her life in Mexico, Joanna’s family moved to Hiawassee. When Joanna came to school for the first time to finish her 8th grade year, the two met for the first time at 14 years old. Amazingly, Craig was in the school office with his mom when he first saw Joanna and he told his mom, “You see that girl, that’s my wife, I’m going to marry that girl.” Following a couple years of trying to convince Joanna this was a divine revelation and not psychosis they began dating at 16 and by graduation the couple both sensed God’s call to international missions.
God’s undeniable calling on their life led Craig to earn a B.A. in Spanish and Joanna to become an RN with a BSN in Nursing. Following college Craig took a teaching job at Towns County High School and also coached baseball while Joanna worked as an RN at the local hospital. After getting married on June 24, 2004 God quickly reminded them of His call a few years earlier and Craig resigned from the school to surrender to full-time ministry and seminary.
Since entering the ministry Craig and Joanna have been in the refining fire of God’s wisdom and grace as He was and is preparing them for the ministry set before them. In 2007 they were given a rare opportunity to relocate to First Baptist Church Woodstock where they entered a residential ministry under the leadership of Pastor Johnny Hunt. Their two years at Woodstock were years devoted to the development of personal character and integrity as well as learning the importance of loving and serving one another the way Christ loved the Church. A realization that one’s primary ministry is not to minister to others but to allow God to minister to you and to center all of one’s affections on the glory and majesty of King Jesus and then to ministry to your spouse and then united in Christ as one flesh the couple ministers to others.
They have traveled to Mexico, Lebanon, Haiti, Honduras, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica and Peru and have been living in the Dominican Republic for several years. The vision of the ministry is to glorify Christ Jesus through Kingdom expansion, accomplished through equipping others to fulfill the Great Commission by reaching their own people and multiplying biblical churches among them. The prayer is multiplication of healthy churches by equipping every disciple to be a disciple maker for their joy and Christ’s glory. They are currently engaged in some form of ministry in several small Dominican villages, including Bible studies, church planting, baseball ministry, basketball ministry, medical outreach, as well as food and purified water distribution facilitated through the local church plants.
Craig and Joanna have two children, Joseph Marshall and Liliana Elizabeth, both born in the Dominican Republic.
