Querétaro is a state in El Bajío, Mexico and is SCORE’s base of operation for the country of Mexico. From Querétaro, SCORE groups will be in a strategic location to minister in various locations throughout El Bajío.

About El Bajío, Mexico

With a population of 26 million, El Bajío (“the lowland”) is a cultural and geographical region within the central Mexican plateau. El Bajío includes the states of Querétaro, Guanajuato, parts of Jalisco, Aguascalientes, and parts of Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, and Michoacán. El Bajío has one of the highest income per capita figures in Mexico.

The Bajío is known for being the cradle of Mexican independence from the Spanish Empire. It is known also for being one of the conservative bastions of Mexican Catholicism, which includes the cult of the Virgin of Guadalupe (which began as an Indian cult closely linked with the earlier cult of Tonantzin).

Weather: In El Bajío, the summers are long, hot, and overcast; the winters are short, warm, and mostly clear; and it is oppressive and wet year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 67°F to 95°F and is rarely below 61°F or above 100°F.
