Rachel began serving as an apprentice alongside SCORE missionaries in the Dominican Republic in 2013. She assisted short-term teams coming to work with children in various aspects, as well as with the women and children of Lily House. It was during this time that God cultivated her heart for Hispanic culture and the Spanish language. In 2017 and 2018, she began a bilingual preschool program for Spanish-speaking children in her hometown of St. Louis. She currently works with families in Fairmont City, IL, a small town outside of St. Louis which is approximately 75-80% Hispanic and has an average household income of $35,000 a year.
Sin Fronteras, which means “without borders,” has a two-fold meaning. First of all, it signifies the breaking down of barriers between cultures in hearts and lives. Secondly, Rachel felt as though God was asking her faith to be stretched outside of her comfort zone to follow Him where He was calling.
Whereas the ministry was previously focused on children, due to COVID-19, the ministry took a different turn. Currently, Sin Fronteras is reaching out to mothers, specifically those with children under the age of 2 by providing necessities such as diapers, wipes, formula, etc. These moms have access to English classes to help improve their skills, and can receive help navigating doctor’s appointments, school systems, and more.
Our goal is to build relationships and community among Hispanic families in Fairmont City and surrounding areas while assisting with needs and sharing the life-changing message of Jesus. We are committed to treating women with dignity and respect, taking the attitude that, “I am not okay; and you are not okay; but Jesus can fix us both.”
