Benavides, Jairo & Noelia

Missionaries, Costa Rica

My name is Jairo Benavides. I didn’t grow up in a Christian home. I was involved with drugs and gangs from a young age. When I was 22 years old, I attended a Christian camp where Christ revealed Himself to me and, understanding that He was my Savior, I opened my heart to Him. God started changing my life and I got involved in a local church where I started serving in ministries that worked with kids and teenagers. I also had the opportunity to study the Bible at a Bible Institute here in Costa Rica. In 2013, God put the desire in my heart to start up a ministry in the town where I grew up, Tirrases. We started with just a soccer club, but it was not long until the group began to grow. God has worked so much so that now, we not only have a sports ministry, but a children’s ministry, a youth ministry, and various Bible studies. In May of 2014, I married Noelia, who currently is serving by my side in Tirrases and is also a Spanish teacher in the SCORE International GAP Program. We were also able to start a church plant in Tirrases in 2015.
