We are the Matute’s, Ruben (Dario), Keila, and our children Joshua (10) and Ruth and Rachel (6). We live in Honduras, Central America, in the city of San Pedro Sula. We have been serving with SCORE International in Honduras for 7 years. Ruben is the Operations Director for SCORE in Honduras, in charge of all the logistics when short-term teams come, such as lodging, ministry schedules, transportation, meals, etc. Keila is the Cook and Finance Manager for the teams. Through our local church, Born Again Baptist Church, we are Sunday school teachers, Small Group Leaders, and Ruben has opportunities to Preach. Since 2016, Ruben has been teaching classes at the Baptist Seminary of Honduras. Over the past five years, he has taught fourteen classes on various Seminary campuses. This has recently continued through the use of the internet and digital communication. We are also volunteer teachers in a Christian Bilingual School, HSD. The school is focused on giving bilingual education to poor children in the city, through scholarships. Keila teaches all the Bible classes in the elementary school, while Rubén teaches Physical Education and does maintenance.
In 2013, we started a project called One Day Camps in elementary and high schools of Honduras. Through these camps, we can preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, teach about values through workshops, and run energetic camp games. In our country there are more than 700 Bilingual schools. Where we have open doors to involve our short term groups, we do the entire program in English. Teams can help us with group games; and Church Leaders can help run workshops on the Gospel, Purity, Evangelism, etc.
SCORE Honduras has an alliance with another ministry, OIC, to train pastors and leaders of Honduras in Biblical Counseling. We have two training centers; in San Pedro Sula and in the Capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. We started with 190 people between the two centers. By God’s grace, we have many opportunities to preach the gospel and invitations to teach the Word of God in Churches, Schools, and even in a Fire Station.
Honduras is currently in quarantine; we can’t go out yet. Churches are having meetings through social media.
As a family, we are broadcasting our Biblical Teachings for Children lessons on Youtube (http://tinyurl.com/KeylaArguijo).
We have several prayer requests:
- Faithfulness to God
- Wisdom in the Ministry
- Open days for One Day Camp; we can receive many groups in Honduras; and go to many Bilingual Schools and preach the Gospel. We need groups to help us in this task.
- Health for our family, we don’t have health insurance now.
- Financial provision: because of the pandemic, we earn only 50% of our livelihood right now.
- Technology: we need a computer and a good phone; ours are currently damaged.
