New York City, as everyone knows, has been hit hard by the Coronavirus. In Brooklyn, we have been in a very strict quarantine. While we had a few social distancing worship events in Sunset Park, as the virus got worse, our group was no longer able to meet. While being physically confined to our home, we were able to have our own Resurrection Day Sunrise service on our rooftop.
We have had to shift to virtual communication like calls, texts, Zoom, and sending out cards. While it has been a struggle, it has also been a privilege to check up on friends that have limited or no family support systems. Phone calls are crucial to encourage those that are in distress or just need a listening ear. We have given aid to some families that needed a little extra encouragement to keep up with “new” expenses like masks, gloves, extra cleaning supplies, safe transportation, etc. We have also delivered food to struggling and grieving families.
Rob has had the unique opportunity of teaching classes for the children of First Responders at a NYC Regional Education Center. He was able to pray with the willing staff members and provide comfort and truth to those that expressed the desire to listen and learn. Rob has also been preaching virtually and can be viewed at First Baptist of Morrisville, PA. We have been praying, memorizing scripture, and participating in a 8 x 8 Bible study and prayer chains.
We know that as the quarantine lifts, there will be a great number of opportunities to share and serve, so we are looking forward to groups coming into and going out of NYC to help. We appreciate the encouragement we have received from our SCORE family and hope to be able to reciprocate as this pandemic passes, by God’s grace.
