Jerica is 10 years old and first came to live at Pasitos de Jesus in May 2012. She lived with her family nearby and came by PDJ every day to ask for food. Dalma Florian, PDJ founder, decided that Jerica could live with them. Jerica’s family lived in severe poverty in a hut with a dirt floor. Jerica and her sisters used to wander in the streets with no clothing looking for food while their mother tried to sell fruit to provide for them. Her father is in jail and her mother often left these tiny girls home alone during the day. Dalma later also took in Jerica’s older and younger sisters and fed and clothed the three girls. After a time, their mother came and took them back but had not improved the situation at home. When her mother found out that the man she lived with had violated their brother, it drove her to insanity. She was pregnant again and unable to care for the girls so, in approximately 2014, she left the girls one night at midnight at the gate of PDJ. This time the government officially placed them there for their safety. Jerica enjoys dancing, ballerinas, eating sweets, and playing with dolls.
